Chocolate Chip Scones
Try these easy to make Chocolatey Scones for a delicious breakfast treat or snack.
Ingredients:
- 2/3 Cup Heavy Cream
- 1 Large Egg, Lightly Beaten
- 1 Teaspoon Pure Vanilla Extract
- 1 3/4 Cups All Purpose Flour
- 1/4 Cup Cocoa Powder
- 2/3 Cup Sugar
- 2 1/2 Teaspoons Baking Powder
- 1 Teaspoon Instant Espresso
- 1/4 Teaspoon Salt
- 7 Tablespoons Cold Unsalted Butter, Cut Into Small Pieces
- 2/3 Cup Chocolate Chips
Glaze:
- 1/4 Cup Cocoa Powder
- 1/4 Cup Brown Sugar
- 1/2 Cup Powdered Sugar
- 3 Tablespoons Milk
Instructions:
- Preheat your oven to 375ºF.
- Whisk Together Cream, Egg and Vanilla Extract in a small bowl.
- In a Large Bowl, add the Flour, Cocoa Powder, Sugar, Baking Powder, Espresso and Salt. Whisk together.
- Using a pastry blender (if you do not have one you can also use two knives) cut up the Butter into the flour mixture until it turns into smaller crumbs. Add the Chocolate Chips and stir together.
- Pour the Cream mixture into the larger bowl and stir until the dough forms. You may add more flour or cream as necessary.
- Place the dough on a well floured surface and knead the dough. Share your dough into a 7 inch circle and slice into 8 wedges. Put on a baking sheet.
- Bake for 20 Minutes (on the center rack in oven) or until the scones are firm around the edges and slightly soft in center. Allow to cool.
- For the Glaze, combine Cocoa Powder, Brown Sugar, Powdered Sugar and Milk and mix well in a bowl. Once Scones are cooled down, drizzle glaze on top.
