DIY: Cocoa Bombs
What You'll Need:
- Sphere shape mold
- Melting Chocolate (Find Packaged in our Fruit Nut and Candy Program)
- Hot Chocolate Mix
- Mini Marshmallows
- Chocolate Sprinkles
- Crushed up Candy Canes, optional
Step 1:
Melt your Chocolate. You can do this by simply putting the chocolate in a bowl and microwaving it in 30 second increments. Take it out to stir the chocolate well and be careful not to burn it. You may also use a double broiler. This method gives you a little more control over not burning the chocolate. You can add water halfway in a pot and place a heatproof bowl over the pot while the water is at a simmer and heat is low.
Step 2:
Using a small brush, drop a small spoonful of chocolate into the mold. Paint on the melted chocolate over your sphere. Place the mold in the refrigerator for about 5 to 10 Minutes, until the chocolate is completely dried. Then paint on another thin layer of chocolate. Refrigerate for 10 minutes.
Step 3:
Remove the chocolate shells from the molds. Fill the bottom shell with a Tablespoon of Cocoa Mix, and 1/4 Cup Mini Marshmallows, and some sprinkles and whatever else you'd like to add to your Cocoa Bomb. Tip: We placed the rim to mason jars on top of the mold, so we could place the chocolate shell on top to hold in place as we filled them.
Step 4:
To "glue" together the Cocoa Bomb, place a small skillet over low heat. Take the top shell and place into the skillet for a second or two, just to slightly melt the chocolate. Immediately place the shell on top of your bottom half, so that the melted chocolate acts as a "glue" to keep them together. You may need to use a little of your melted chocolate to paint in the cracks.
Step 5:
Refrigerate for 5 Minutes. Enjoy your Cocoa Bomb by pouring hot Milk in your mug and watch it explode!
