Pick up these vegetables in our Produce Department this week. All favorites included in Italian Cuisine.
Anise is well known for its ability to enhance and blend with other flavors. This vegetable is extremely popular in Italian Cuisine. Its commonly added into soups, salads, stews, as well as many appetizers.
Fresh Escarole is slightly bitter and full of flavor. You can add Escarole to salads, soups, pasta dishes or with Italian sausage. We love adding escarole in with a delicious bowl of Italian Wedding Soup.
Italian Cubanelle Peppers
These peppers are rich in flavor, and found in many different colors. These sweet peppers are often enjoyed fried. Just add some olive oil to a skillet over medium heat. Add in the peppers and cover the pan. Let them cook over low heat, turning occasionally until the skin becomes wrinkly. Drain and sprinkle on some sea salt. Another way Cubanelle Peppers are commonly enjoyed is by stuffing them Italian sausage, vegetables and rice.
Eggplant is a fantastic substitute for meat or pasta. There’s nothing quite like a dish or Eggplant Parmesan. Layers of flavorful tomato sauce, melted cheese and rounds of plump eggplant.
Roma Plum Tomatoes
These tomatoes are not as juicy. They have a thick flesh which makes them great for making a nice thick tomato sauce. One of our favorite ways to enjoy Plum Tomatoes is making a delicious Bruschetta or caprese salad.
